Pune 21st Sept 2023: The District Collector of Pune Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has released an updated order for the mandals to use loudspeakers during the ganesh festival. According to the latest order, the ganesh mandals in Pune can now use loudspeakers till midnight for six days during the festival instead of five days as shared in the previous order.

As per the Central government’s Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, usage of loudspeakers during the festival between 6 am and 12 am can be allowed for a total of 15 days in a year. Accordingly, the district collector had issued an order on 2nd February 2023 to allow usage of loudspeakers till midnight for 13 days across the year during different festivals including five days allotted for the ganesh festival this year while two days were kept reserved.

However, various public representatives and Ganpati mandals in Pune city and the district had requested an extension of the prescribed days, especially for the seventh day citing increased enthusiasm. The Pune Rural Police Superintendent has also reported that there is no objection to extending the festival by one day. Consequently, an order has been issued by the District Collector Dr. Deshmukh allowed the use of sound amplifiers and sound enhancers until midnight for the seventh day of Ganeshotsav (Gauri Visarjan) along with the earlier approved five days.
