Pune: DCM Ajit Pawar Directs Tourism Dept To Prepare Plan For Development Of Tourist Points In Lonavala, Glass Skywalk Proposed At Lions Point And Tiger Point

Pune 21st Sept 2023: The Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawat has directed the tourism department of the state to prepare a comprehensive plan to build a glass skywalk in Lonavala to promote tourism and development of the tourist points including Tiger Point and Lions Point. The DCM on Thursday held a meeting at the state guest house in Mumbai regarding the tourism development in Lonavala and Maval area.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated that the natural beauty of the Lonavala region attracts a large number of tourists. To cater to tourists, an excellent infrastructure should be created, which includes adventurous activities and various facilities for children. A detailed project proposal should be created considering these aspects while ensuring that the project does not affect the environment of the area. He instructed the tourism department to make immediate preparation to make a proposal for it.

As the region experiences a high influx of tourists, safety and environmental conservation must be given priority while making a proposal, he said. He instructed the officials to use paving stones to build a road to walk for tourists in the area instead of concrete material and asked them to include facilities such as parking for tourists while preparing a proposal. An announcement to develop facilities for tourists in Lonavala was made in the 2022 budget.

A glass skywalk is proposed at Tiger Point and Lions Point. A total of 4.84 hectares of land is proposed to be utilised for the project and various facilities such as Zip Line, Adventure games, Food Park, Amphitheatre, Open Gym etc will be developed. A total of around Rs 100 Crore budget is expected for the project.

The meeting included the participation of various officials, including Sunil Shelke from the Planning Department, Nitin Kareer, Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department, Saurabh Vijay, Chief Secretary of the Planning Department, B. Gopal Reddy, Chief Secretary of the Forest Department, N.R. Praveen, Chief Forest Conservator of Pune division. Besides, Divisional Commissioner of Pune Saurabh Rao, PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal, Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, the District Collector, and Kiran Indalkar, the District Planning Officer were also virtually present in the meeting.
