Manoj Jarange Patil Suspends 20-Day Hunger Strike After Talks With Maharashtra Government
Patoda, 17th September 2026: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil on Thursday morning suspended his indefinite hunger strike after 20 days following discussions with a delegation representing the Maharashtra government. Jarange has given the government three months to act on his demands and warned that he would consider resuming the agitation if concrete action is not taken within the stipulated period.
Jarange had launched the hunger strike over the demand for Maratha reservation and other related issues. A government delegation comprising ministers Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and Dada Bhuse, along with MLAs Prasad Lad and Suresh Dhas, held discussions with him to find a way forward.
During the talks, the government sought additional time to act on the demands. Following the discussions, Jarange agreed to suspend his hunger strike for three months.
A key issue discussed during the talks was the implementation of the Satara Gazette and the process of issuing Kunbi certificates on the basis of entries in the Hyderabad Gazette. Jarange has been demanding action on Kunbi records in the Marathwada region and the issuance of Kunbi certificates to eligible Marathas based on those records.
Although he has suspended the hunger strike, Jarange made it clear that the agitation has not been called off permanently. He said the future course of action would be decided if the government fails to fulfil the demands within the three-month period.
The government’s actions during the next three months, particularly its decisions on the Satara and Hyderabad Gazette records and the process of issuing Kunbi certificates, are expected to remain closely watched by members of the Maratha community.
