Swargate, 2nd September 2025: The Maratha community in Pune celebrated enthusiastically on Tuesday following a breakthrough in the long-standing demand for reservation. At Swargate Chowk, hundreds of Maratha supporters gathered, bursting firecrackers and chanting slogans such as “One Maratha…One lakh Maratha, Manoj Jarange Patil Zindabad.”

The celebrations came after Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil, who had been protesting at Azad Maidan for the past five days, reached a consensus with a state government delegation on key issues related to Maratha reservation. Following the discussions, Jarange Patil declared the protest victorious.

Speaking to reporters, several Maratha supporters highlighted that the fight for reservation had been ongoing for the past four decades, initiated by Annasaheb Patil and carried forward by leaders like Manoj Jarange Patil.

“Today, we are proud that the struggle has borne fruit. Many Maratha brothers have contributed to this cause, and the community’s efforts have finally been recognised,” said one participant.

The state government has now officially recognised Marathas under the Kunbi category for reservation purposes, marking a milestone in the community’s decades-long campaign.
