Pune, 10th December 2025: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Pune Commissionerate has seized 722 grams of high-grade hydroponic marijuana at Pune International Airport and arrested a woman passenger in a major anti-smuggling operation carried out on December 6.

Officials said the passenger, who arrived on Air India Express flight IX 241, was intercepted following specific intelligence and detailed passenger profiling. During the examination of her luggage, officers recovered two sealed cylindrical cans that appeared to contain chips.

On closer inspection, the cans were found to be cleverly modified to hide the narcotic substance.
The seized hydroponic weed is valued at around Rs 72.2 lakh in the illicit market. The contraband was taken into custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

AIU officials said further investigation is underway to identify the network behind the trafficking attempt, including the source of the narcotics and the intended recipients.

The Pune Commissionerate said it remains committed to tightening surveillance at airports and dismantling smuggling routes used for trafficking high-value narcotics.
