New Delhi, 10th June 2021: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has said that children aged below five years are not required to wear masks. Wearing a mask may be suggested for children aged between 6 to 11 years only under the supervision of parents and doctor.

The DGHS has issued guidelines for Coronavirus disease (COVID19) management in children.

According to the guidelines, Remdesivir has not been recommended for Covid19 infected kids and to test Covid19, rational use of CT-Scan has been suggested. The steroid has also been considered harmful for Covid19 management in children. DGHS instructed to use a sufficient dose of steroid at the right time and in the right quantity only.

To use Remdesivir, DGHS clarified, “there is lack of efficacy data regarding Remdesivir in children below 18 years. Therefore, Remdesivir should not be used for children.”

While suggesting rational use of Remdesivir, DGHS stated, “Chest Scan is not very helpful in treating Covid19. HRCT in Covid19 patient should be suggested by doctors based on symptoms.”
