Pune: Metro To Run In Pimpri Chinchwad By December 2021

Pune/Pimpri, 10th June 2021: Puneites will have to wait till December for the completion of the first phase of the Pune Metro project in the city and Pimpri Chinchwad.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is ruling in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations, is trying to run the Metro before the model code of conduct for next year’s municipal elections comes into force.

Metro lines between Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi are currently under construction. In the first phase, Metro will run between Pimpri to Phugewadi on a 6.2 km route. Between Vanaz to Garware College, the Metro will cover 5.4 km.

According to officials, construction of traffic lights on both routes, laying of cables for power supply etc. are 40 per cent complete. About 43 per cent of the electrical work has been completed.

All the seven stations on both routes will be elevated. Construction of Metro coaches is also in full swing. Metro cards have also been fixed for travel. Passengers can use the card by recharging it regularly. Metro stations will have an automated system for ticket checking and the mechanism has also been confirmed.

Due to the lockdown, the work was delayed to some extent. But now the work of all the seven stations has gained momentum. Therefore, work on the Pimpri-Chinchwad-Phugewadi metro will be completed by the end of December, while the first phase in Pune will run between January and February next year.
