Massive Seizure: 4,970 kg of Adulterated Paneer Intercepted and Destroyed In Pune City

Pune, 29th August 2023: A total of 4,970 kg of adulterated paneer originating from Karnataka and destined for sale within the Pune city was confiscated in a decisive operation. This action was taken by the Anti-Dacoity and Anti-Vehicle Theft Squad of the Crime Branch at Katraj Chowk, with crucial support from the Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The vigilant Anti-Robbery and Anti-Theft Squad acted upon credible intelligence about the illicit trade of significant quantities of adulterated paneer being transported from Karnataka. Upon receiving information about a tempo carrying the suspect paneer, which had come to a halt at Katraj Chowk on 5th July, the Crime Branch promptly detained the driver of the said vehicle.
A substantial haul of 4,970 kg of paneer, estimated to be valued at Rs 10 lakh, was intercepted and seized from the tempo. The action was taken with support from FDA Officer Kranti Barwakar and her team.
In adherence to the directives of food safety authorities, the impounded adulterated paneer was dispatched to the National Agriculture and Food Analysis and Research Institute (NAFARI) laboratory located in Baner for rigorous testing.
Subsequent analysis confirmed the suspicions, revealing that the seized paneer was indeed adulterated. The lab report was recently made available. To ensure public health and safety, the adulterated paneer was promptly disposed of in accordance with appropriate protocols.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, DCP (Crime) Amol Zende, and ACP Sunil Tambe. The team included Senior Police Inspector Ashok Indalkar, Assistant Inspector Narendra Patil, Sub-Inspector Shahid Sheikh, and policemen Sumit Takpere, and Mahesh Patil, among others.
