Pune, 25th February 2025: In a large-scale operation against traffic violations, Pune police penalized 4,187 motorists and collected ₹13.65 lakh in fines on Monday evening. The special drive targeted triple-seat riding, wrong-side driving/riding, and driving without seatbelts across the city.

The operation, conducted between 4 PM and 6 PM, was led by Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma and covered 78 major roads and junctions. A highly coordinated effort saw the deployment of all deputy commissioners of police, senior police inspectors, crime branch personnel, and traffic police officers at strategic checkpoints.

In addition to imposing fresh fines, police seized 371 vehicles that had accumulated multiple traffic violations or outstanding fines.

A senior police official involved in the operation stated, “This drive is part of our broader efforts to instill discipline among motorists and ensure road safety. Repeated offenders will face stricter action, including vehicle seizures.”

Earlier in the day, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar issued a strong warning, emphasizing that lawlessness on city roads would not be tolerated.

“Our objective is not just to penalize but to create awareness. Motorists must understand that reckless driving endangers not just their own lives but also those of other road users. Strict enforcement will continue in the coming days,” Kumar stated.

The police have urged motorists to comply with traffic rules to avoid penalties and vehicle seizures. Officials have also hinted at further intensified drives in the near future.

“We advise all motorists to follow traffic regulations to ensure their safety and avoid unnecessary fines. Those who continue to flout rules will face even stricter action,” an officer added.
