Pune, 30th September 2025: A hard-hitting short film titled Maun, written and directed by graduate student Charushi Kalra, is set to spark dialogue on women’s abuse and the silence that often surrounds traumatic experiences.

The film follows a young woman who, during an outing with friends, finds herself in a vulnerable situation when one of them crosses boundaries and touches her inappropriately. Though she manages to escape, the incident leaves lasting emotional scars, pushing her into isolation and silence.

As she struggles to cope, another ordeal awaits — this time on the streets, where a stranger attempts to assault her. The narrative confronts a crucial question: will she fight back, or will past trauma silence her once again?

Kalra, who wrote the script in her second year of college, said the film seeks to educate and empower women to confront abuse and uphold self-respect. “Silence is not the answer,” she emphasized, urging survivors to reclaim their voices and strength.

What makes Maun stand out is its collaborative spirit. The cast, crew, and cinematographer are all Kalra’s classmates, lending the project a raw and authentic energy.
