Pune, June 22, 2020: Due to the increasing number of Coronavirus positive cases in the city, Mayor Murlidhar Mohol has requested to close the Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC) main building for the public, workers and contractors. Any citizen who wishes to meet the PMC officials will have to request for an appointment by giving advance notice. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal corporation (PCMC) has already closed its doors till June 30.

The lockdown in the city has been relaxed since June 1. While the hustle and bustle have been increasing in the entire town, new patients have started to be found in the main building of the corporation. Four corporators, a leader from the opposition, a peon from the tax collection department, a clerk from the health department, an official from Disaster Management Cell, a health inspector from the Municipal Corporation, and about 100 other employees were also found COVID positive.

“The activists, contractors and the general public have started visiting the PMC premises. This has increased the risk of corona spread in the main building. Since the work of corona prevention is carried out from the main building of the corporation, if the number of patients increases here, it is likely to affect the work of corona control. I request you to issue appropriate orders in Pune Municipal Corporation regarding the adoption of such measures”, Mayor Mohol wrote to PMC Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad.

Mohol requested,” If there are suggestions, proposals, or statements of the members, use of telephone/mobile, e-mail, and WhatsApp can be done.”
