Yerawada: 12th June 2026: The Yerawada Police have arrested a 47-year-old man from Telangana for allegedly cheating students and parents by falsely promising admissions to MBBS and other medical courses. The accused is suspected to have duped nearly 40 students and their families across Maharashtra, collecting lakhs of rupees under the pretext of securing medical seats.

The accused has been identified as Arvind Prakashkumar Arogonda, a resident of Secunderabad, Telangana.

According to the police, he allegedly collected ₹8.12 lakh from a parent after assuring admission to a medical course. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Yerawada Police Station on March 18, 2026.

During the investigation, police discovered that Arogonda was already lodged in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail after being arrested by the Mumbai Police in another cheating case. Upon learning of his alleged involvement in a similar offence in Pune, the Yerawada Police obtained the court’s permission and took him into custody for further investigation.

Police said Arogonda, along with an associate, had established a company named Eduvio Learning Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in Hyderabad and operated branches in Pune and Mumbai.

Through advertisements circulated on social media platforms, the company allegedly claimed to facilitate admissions to medical colleges.

According to investigators, the accused charged ₹5 lakh for securing admissions to government medical colleges and ₹3 lakh for admissions to private medical institutions. Parents were allegedly assured that the money would be refunded if admissions could not be secured.

The probe revealed that around 40 students and parents had allegedly been cheated through the scheme. Police further stated that six cheating cases have already been registered against the accused in Hyderabad and Mumbai.

The action was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajanikant Chilumula, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Jaitapurkar, Senior Police Inspector Anjum Bagwan, Police Inspector (Crime) Vijay Thakar and their team.

Police have appealed to parents and students to verify the credentials of admission consultants and educational institutions before making any payments, particularly during the ongoing admission season.
