Pune, 25 Septembe 2023: The ICC World Cup Trophy is on a tour, giving a glimpse of it to cricket fans across the world. Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has been given the honour of becoming the first state association in India to hold a rally to display the World Cup Trophy for the fans, the MCA president Rohit Pawar announced in a press conference here on Saturday.
“There is a perception that only VIPs get to see and take a selfie with the World Cup Trophy. But we want to give fans an opportunity to click a selfie with the World Cup Trophy. I am sure fans will not miss this lifetime opportunity,” Pawar said.
The rally is scheduled for September 26, 2023 at 12 noon. It will begin at the JW Marriott Hotel on Senapati Bapat Road and culminate at the Agricultural College via SB Road. The rally will halt at Symbiosis College, Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce and Fergusson College for a while to allow fans to catch glimpses of the trophy.
The current and former India players from Maharashtra, Ranji players and other stakeholders of the MCA will participate in the rally which is expected to last three hours. The MCA president also urged various cyclist groups, motorcycle riders groups and marathon runners to participate in the rally.
“We will welcome the World Cup trophy in a traditional Maharashtrian way. There will be Dhol-Taasha units to welcome the trophy,” Rohit Pawar further added.
“Maharashtra Cricket Association is the only association in the country to have allocated the maximum quota of tickets for the general public,” he said further adding, “We have also procured 6-acre land around the stadium to help ease the traffic and parking issues on the match days. We are also on track to improve the infrastructure at the stadium.”
Shubhendra Bhandarkar, Hon. Secretary, MCA, Suhas Patwardhan, Sunil Mutha and Sushil Shewale (Apex Council Members, MCA) and Ajinkya Joshi, COO MCA, were present for the event.
