Minor Fire At Chemistry Lab At Pune IISER

Pune, 16 July 2021: A student sustain minor injuries when suddenly fire broke out at the Chemistry laboratory at Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research, Pune. However, there were no casualties reported.

Apparently, the fire brigade took two hours to doused the fire. “We had pressed 10 fire tenders and three water dousers at the spot”, said chief fire brigade officer, Pune Municipal Corporation. He said one of their staff members (one of the drivers) too burnt his hand while dousing the fire. But with immediate first-aid, the burns were treated well.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the institute at around noon. “The students who were working the laboratory tried to doused the fire and immediately alerted the authorities”, said the officials at the institute while speaking with Punekarnews.in

The officials called up the Fire brigade and within few minutes the water tenders arrived and fought for nearly two hours to douse the fire. “The total loss to the laboratory will be assessed in coming days”, said the officials adding that we cannot go inside the laboratory as though the fire has wiped out, the flames are still there.

“The student sustained injuries on his hand and was given the first-aid. He is doing fine”, the officials said.
“The institute shall appoint a committee to investigate the incident”, said the officials.

Meanwhile, the institute thanked the fire brigades from Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and HEMRL for their timely help and hard work in putting the fire out. The institute also thanks its staff and staff from CSIR-NCL for all their efforts in responding to the emergency. The institute also thanks the Pune City Police for their cooperation.

Ranpise said that the entire floor was burning. “The rescue operation had difficulties due to flames”, he informed.
