Geneva, 6th June 2022: In a short time, monkeypox has spread to 27 countries and its cases have increased to more than 780. WHO is taking this disease seriously and has decided to take strong action to stop the spread of the virus.

The WHO informed that 780 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in 27 non-endemic countries of the world. Non-endemic are those countries where this disease has come from outside. The UN’s global health body has said that since May 29, there has been a more than 203 per cent increase in cases of monkeypox in non-endemic countries.

The WHO said that between May 13 and June 2, the total cases of monkeypox in these countries increased from 257 to 780. In this way, there has been an increase of 523 them. However, there is no report of any death due to monkeypox in these countries so far.

World Health Organization (WHO) and other major health organisations have expressed concern about the increasing cases of monkeypox. WHO is taking this disease seriously and has decided to take strong action to stop the spread of the monkeypox virus. The organization has said that this virus is in the early stages and it is very important to do everything possible to stop it.

WHO official Maria Van Kerkhove has said that awareness has to be raised about what is monkeypox and what is not. We have to increase surveillance regarding this virus. Let us know what measures have been given by the organization to stop the spread of the virus.

Emphasis on increasing medical clinics in vulnerable countries

According to WHO said all at-risk countries other than those where monkeypox is on the rise, need to equip health clinics to identify monkeypox. Monkeypox is suspected so that they can get the proper care.

Preventing the spread of the virus is a priority

WHO has emphasized that the virus has to be prevented from spreading from person to person. We can do this in non-endemic countries. This is very important because we are in a position where we can use public health tools for early detection. For this, things, like isolating victims, promoting isolation, talking to communities and listening to and connecting with communities, can be done.

Frontline workers need protection

It also said that the organisation wants to protect the frontline workers. Anyone taking samples for testing or caring for individuals needs to have accurate information. Plus they need to have the right personal protective equipment and we all want to use countermeasures.

Correct use of vaccines is essential

WHO scientist Maria van Kherkove has said that there are antivirals and vaccines for the disease, but we have to use them properly. Many people are not aware that these vaccines can increase the risk of disease.

Important information about monkeypox

She also said that it is very important to give correct information to the people about what is monkeypox. Because much misleading information is being spread about this. In such a situation, a big meeting is being organized with the help of experts and the right information will be given to the people after considering monkeypox in detail.
