Pune, 10th October 2026: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has suspended six officials from its Pune division over complaints of alleged financial transactions linked to the approval process for industrial projects, with video footage submitted as supporting evidence.

The suspended officials include one regional officer, two sub-regional officers and three field officers. According to official orders, the complaints concerned the consent approval process required for industries to establish and operate their units.

Following the complaints, the officials were asked to submit written explanations. However, the competent authority found their responses unsatisfactory and rejected them, leading to the suspension orders pending a departmental inquiry.

The MPCB has ordered an independent departmental inquiry to examine the alleged transactions, the role of the officials concerned and whether any irregularities or misuse of official positions occurred during the industrial clearance process.

During their suspension, all six officials will be headquartered at the MPCB’s Mumbai office. They cannot leave the designated headquarters without prior permission from the competent controlling authority. The suspensions will remain in force until further orders.

The board said a detailed and impartial inquiry would establish the nature of the alleged transactions and assess the evidence submitted with the complaints. The suspension orders do not, by themselves, establish the allegations as proven; the final findings will depend on the outcome of the inquiry.
