New Delhi, 10th October 2026: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has appointed its National Organisation In-Charge, Ajinkya Shinde, to lead its scheduled protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi following the detention of party founder Abhijeet Dipke and two key organisers, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, by Delhi Police.

According to the party, the three leaders were detained inside an aircraft upon its arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The party has announced that the protest will continue under Shinde’s leadership, with its principal demand being the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

In a video message recorded on Friday night and released after his detention, Dipke urged supporters to continue the agitation in his absence.

“The movement does not end here. Ajinkya Shinde will lead the protest at Jantar Mantar for as long as we remain in detention,” Dipke said in the message, calling on citizens to support Shinde and continue demanding Kumar’s resignation.

Taking charge of the planned agitation, Shinde criticised the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the action against party leaders reflected the government’s concern over the growing movement.

Shinde appealed to citizens to join the protest and said supporters should continue their demonstrations if they were stopped by barricades or police personnel. He maintained that the agitation would focus on electoral accountability and safeguarding democracy.

Security tightened across Delhi

The party claimed that authorities had intensified security arrangements across the National Capital Region ahead of the protest. According to its statement, police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel had been deployed at key locations, while restrictions on metro services, train movements and internet connectivity had been imposed in parts of the capital.

The statement also alleged that hundreds of youth activists, supporters and civil society members had been placed under preventive detention at locations including IGI Airport, Connaught Place and border checkpoints. It further claimed that some detainees were being taken to temporary holding facilities, including Chhatrasal Stadium and the Yamuna Sports Complex.

These claims could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

Three key demands

The CJP said its agitation would continue until its demands were addressed. These include:
The immediate resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and criminal proceedings over alleged manipulation of electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

The freezing of the 2025 voter lists pending a comprehensive, independent audit.

The repeal of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, to safeguard the constitutional independence of the Election Commission of India.

The party alleged that the detentions would not deter its supporters and said the agitation would continue despite restrictions.

CJP also announced that its legal cell was preparing to approach the High Court and the Supreme Court over what it described as unlawful detentions of party leaders, activists and volunteers.

The party maintained that it would continue its campaign for electoral reforms and accountability while pursuing legal remedies against the action taken against its members.
