MTDC Announces 50% Discount for Women Tourists on International Women’s Day

Mumbai, 28th February 2025: In a special initiative to promote women-centric tourism, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will offer a 50% discount for women tourists staying at MTDC accommodations across the state from March 1 to 8, 2025. Alongside the discount, a series of tourism activities will be organized to enhance the travel experience for women. The initiative falls under the “Aai” gender-inclusive tourism policy, announced Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai.
Women-Centric Tourism Initiative
Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai emphasized MTDC’s commitment to making travel safer, more accessible, and memorable for women. “Last year, our Women’s Day discount received an overwhelming response, with over 1,500 women tourists availing the benefits. Given this success, we are extending the scheme in 2025 as well. Women travelers can book their stay at discounted rates through the official MTDC website (www.mtdc.co),” he said.
Women’s Participation in Tourism Sector
Minister of State Indranil Naik highlighted the government’s efforts to increase women’s participation in tourism. He noted that MTDC has taken significant steps, including women-managed tourist lodges in Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, and Kharghar (Navi Mumbai). “These lodges are entirely operated by women, handling everything from resort management to security, taxi services, cleanliness, and hospitality. This initiative has created employment opportunities for women in the tourism sector,” he added.
Extended Discounts and Special Activities
In addition to the Women’s Day week offer, MTDC will provide a 50% discount on 22 additional days throughout the year, with specific dates to be announced on its website. The initiative also includes:
Stalls for women’s self-help groups at MTDC tourist sites
Heritage walks, adventure tourism, and educational tours
Tourism training programs for women guides and water tourism instructors
Special sports and entertainment activities for women travelers
A Safe and Inclusive Tourism Experience
Dr. Atul Patne, Principal Secretary of the Tourism Department, assured that MTDC’s priority is to create a safe and welcoming environment for women tourists. “The ‘Aai’ policy will further empower women travelers by offering more opportunities and ensuring a comfortable travel experience,” he said.
MTDC Managing Director Manoj Kumar Suryavanshi encouraged women to take advantage of this scheme, particularly with March 8 falling on a holiday. “We anticipate a surge in women travelers, and this initiative will be a great incentive for them to explore Maharashtra’s tourist destinations,” he stated.
