Mulshi: 5 Members Of Family Drowned In Stream Near Kolvan Village

Pune, February 21, 2021: Five members of a family drowned in a stream near Kolvan village in Mulshi taluka today. All five bodies have been fished out of the stream and taken to a hospital for autopsy, Paud police station officials informed.

The deceased have been identified as Shankar Dashrath Laigude (38), Pournima Shankar Laigude (36), Arpita Shankar Laigude (20), Rajshree Shankar Laigude (12), and Ankita Shankar Laigude (13), all residents of Wadavali village in the taluka.

According to police, Pournima along with three girls was washing clothes on the bank of the stream at around 10.30 am today. She slipped and fell into the stream. To save her, the three girls jumped into the stream. However, all three girls drowned along with Pournima. When Shankar Laigude received information that his wife and three daughters had drowned, he jumped into the stream and tried to save his wife and daughters. However, he drowned as well.

Police rushed to the spot after gaining information regarding the incident. The bodies of all five members of the same family were later recovered with the help of the Mulshi Disaster Management Authority. All the bodies were taken to the government hospital for autopsy.

Police officials suspect that the victims were swallowed by a vortex in the stream.
