Pune/Mumbai, 31st December 2024: As the countdown to the New Year begins, Mumbai and Pune police have stepped up measures to ensure a safe and incident-free celebration. Security has been tightened across key areas, with police personnel stationed at strategic locations in Mumbai and its suburbs. Authorities have also urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and adhere to laws and regulations during the festivities.
In Pune, hotel and restaurant owners have made special arrangements to prioritize customer safety. The Pune Hoteliers Association has announced that some establishments will provide complimentary cab services to drop patrons home if they are found to be heavily intoxicated. Additionally, arrangements have been made to return vehicles left behind by customers on the following day.
The New Year parties in Pune are permitted to continue until 5 am on 1st January 2025. Hotels and pubs in the city have pulled out all the stops, organizing lavish celebrations to ring in the New Year. However, the association is keen to ensure that celebrations remain safe. This initiative to provide transport for intoxicated patrons aims to reduce drunk driving incidents, which often lead to accidents during New Year’s festivities.
“Hotels and restaurants will arrange for intoxicated customers to be safely dropped home at their own expense,” Ganesh Shetty, President of the Pune Hoteliers Association stated. “If customers leave their car keys behind, their vehicles will also be returned to them the next day.”
Meanwhile, the police in both cities are keeping a watchful eye on private parties, particularly those where drug use is suspected. Strict action will be taken against those found violating the law.
