Pune, 25th April 2022: Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians suffered a 36-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants in the 37th match of the league.

Mumbai Indians have lost eight consecutive matches in IPL 2022 and now the team is out of the race for IPL 2022 playoffs. This is the sixth time in the history of the league that Mumbai has failed to make it to the playoffs. Earlier, the team had missed out on a place in the playoffs in 2008, 2009, 2016, 2018 and 2021.

Let’s take a look at the reasons why Mumbai Indians have been put to shame due to their poor performance in IPL 2022.

Failure of opening pair

In the 15th season of IPL, the opening pair of Mumbai Indians has not been able to do anything big so far. The opening pair of captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have not been able to form a big partnership this season so far.

In the first eight matches, Rohit has made 153 while Ishan has made only 199. Due to the team not getting a solid start, the pressure on the batsmen coming forward is increasing and they are also throwing their wickets under pressure. After losing eight matches in a row, captain Rohit also admitted that no batsman is ready to take the responsibility.

Bumrah is not getting any support in bowling

The bowling of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 is not showing the sharpness for which the team is known. Even after scoring 200 in the season, bowlers are not able to defend the scores. Main fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not getting the support of any other bowlers. The team is missing Trent Boult, who used to get wickets with the new ball in the beginning.

Mumbai Indians are missing out on all-rounders

In the absence of Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya, the team is facing a shortage of all-rounders. Kieron Pollard is also not able to do anything special alone. He is not able to leave his mark with the ball and bat. With Hardik Pandya and Krunal moving to other teams, Mumbai Indians have not been able to find their substitute. No batsman is able to play explosive innings for the team in the lower order.
