Mumbai, 11th February 2025: Mumbai police have summoned podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and YouTuber Samay Raina for questioning regarding Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on the show India’s Got Latent, which is hosted by Raina.

Allahbadia, widely recognized for his channel BeerBiceps, appeared as a guest on the show alongside content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija. During the episode, his remarks sparked outrage, with video clips of the alleged insensitive and vulgar jokes circulating widely on social media. The controversy has fueled discussions about the limits of free speech and the need for content regulation on digital platforms.

The show has drawn sharp criticism from politicians, human and women’s rights organizations, celebrities, and the general public. In Mumbai, multiple legal complaints have been filed by various groups, lawyers, and political parties against the show’s participants, organizers, and the platform that aired the episode, which was recorded in a Khar-based studio.

The inquiry was prompted by complaints from Mumbai-based lawyers Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, who alleged that the show contained obscene remarks targeting parents, women, and their body parts. They submitted their complaint to the Mumbai police as well as national and Maharashtra women’s commissions.

Additionally, Nikhil Ruparel, a member of the Congress’s student wing, the National Students’ Union of India, approached the Bandra magistrate court, seeking a criminal investigation against Allahbadia, Raina, and the show’s organizers.

While Mumbai police have yet to register an FIR and are still investigating the matter, Assam Police formally lodged an FIR against Allahbadia, Raina, and others on Monday. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the filing of the FIR via social media.

In response to the backlash, Allahbadia, who has over 10 million YouTube subscribers, issued a public apology. In a video statement, he admitted, “My comment was not just inappropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am here to sincerely apologize.”
