Mumbai-Pune Expressway Mishap: Two Killed After Truck Rams Two Vehicles, Traffic Movement on Four Lanes Affected for Two Hours

Pune, 15th May 2026: Two persons were killed and two others seriously injured after a truck rammed into two heavy vehicles on the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Borghat on Thursday evening, police said.

The accident took place around 5.05 pm near KM 38.100 in the M.P. Centre area of Borghat when a truck travelling from Pune towards Mumbai allegedly lost control and crashed into two vehicles moving ahead of it.

According to police, truck number KA-56-2199 first hit truck RJ-19-GG-4175 and then container truck MH-04-GR-2874, causing all three vehicles to overturn on the expressway.

The driver and cleaner of truck KA-56-2199 sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Their identities were yet to be confirmed till late evening.

The two other drivers — identified as Veer Balram, a resident of Rajasthan, and Zeeshan Ali, 31, from Uttar Pradesh — suffered serious injuries and were shifted to Khopoli Rural Hospital for treatment.

Police said paint containers and powder bags being transported in the trucks spilled across the carriageway after the crash, severely affecting traffic movement on all four lanes of the expressway for nearly two hours.

Personnel from Khopoli Police Station, IRB patrol teams and emergency response units rushed to the spot and launched rescue and clearance operations. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Khopoli Rural Hospital for post-mortem procedures.

Officials said efforts were undertaken simultaneously to remove the overturned vehicles and clear the spilled material from the road to restore traffic movement.

Sub-divisional police officer Vishal Nehul, Police Inspector Hire and local social worker Gurunath Sathilkar along with volunteers were involved in the rescue operation.

Police said further investigation into the accident is underway.
