Muzaffarnagar: Student Sets Himself on Fire After Being Denied Exam Form Over Unpaid Fees, Condition Critical
Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, 8th November 2025: A shocking incident unfolded at DAV PG College in Budhana on Saturday afternoon when a student allegedly set himself on fire after being denied permission to appear for his examination due to unpaid fees. The student, identified as Ujjwal Rana, a second-year BA student, suffered more than 70% burns and is currently in critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses, Ujjwal approached the college principal to collect his examination form, but the principal reportedly refused, citing non-payment of fees. A fellow student alleged that the principal insulted and even assaulted Ujjwal during the altercation.
A video of the incident that surfaced online shows Ujjwal saying that the principal humiliated him in front of other students, allegedly remarking, “This is not a Dharamshala.” Enraged, Ujjwal is seen pulling out a bottle of petrol from his bag, pouring it over himself, and setting himself ablaze.
Panic spread across the campus as the student, engulfed in flames, ran toward a classroom. Fellow students rushed to save him, using their school bags and water to extinguish the fire. Another student sustained minor burn injuries while trying to help.
College staff and students immediately took Ujjwal to a local hospital, from where he was referred to Meerut and later shifted to Delhi for advanced treatment. Doctors said he has sustained over 70% burn injuries, and his condition remains critical.
Police have reached the college campus and are investigating the incident. Officials said they are verifying the claims made by students and examining CCTV footage. No official statement has been issued by the college administration so far.
The incident has sparked outrage among students and parents, who are demanding action against the college principal.
