National Sanskrit Day Celebrated With Enthusiasm At Deccan College Pune

Pune, 8th September 2023: The Department of Sanskrit and Lexicography at Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute, a Deemed University in Pune, celebrated National Sanskrit Day with great fervor on Wednesday. The occasion was marked by a special program that featured a variety of cultural events and insightful discussions on the relevance of Sanskrit in contemporary media.

The event began with the screening of Sanskrit Short Films titled “Sandhanam,” “Deyam Dinjanai Cha Minanam,” and “Swaramriduladaya,” all of which had received the prestigious Sanskrit Bharati Award. These films showcased the linguistic and artistic excellence that Sanskrit continues to embody.

Prof. Prasad Joshi, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the Department of Sanskrit and Lexicography, presided over the program. The chief guest for the event, Neelima Patwardhan, Program Officer at Pune Akashvani, delivered an enlightening lecture on the topic of ‘Sanskrit and Media.’ She discussed the various forms of media and highlighted the importance of Sanskrit within them. Drawing from her personal experience as a Sanskrit expert and Akashvani anchor, she emphasized the rich career opportunities available to Sanskrit students in the media industry.

Prof. Prasad Joshi, in his presidential address, delved into the impact of mass media on language and how Sanskrit continues to play a vital role in preserving linguistic traditions.

The event attracted participation from heads of departments and students from various institutes in Pune. Additionally, teachers and students from all departments of Deccan College enthusiastically took part in the celebration.

Dr. Vrishali Bhosle, the coordinator of the program, expressed her satisfaction with the successful commemoration of National Sanskrit Day, emphasizing the importance of nurturing and promoting Sanskrit as a timeless and culturally significant language.

The celebration not only showcased the enduring relevance of Sanskrit but also fostered a sense of pride and appreciation for this ancient language among the participants. National Sanskrit Day at Deccan College served as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage embodied by Sanskrit and its continued significance in the modern world.
