Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver Medal At World Athletics Championships 2022

New Delhi, 24th July 2022: Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Oregon, USA.

Chopra had to come first for the throw, but his first throw was a foul. He threw his second throw in good fashion, covering a distance of 82.39 metres. This took him to the fourth position, while Rohit Yadar, also from India, could throw his javelin only 77.96 meters.

Chopra threw 86.37m in his third attempt. This is his best performance so far in three attempts. Although he is still in the fourth position, Chopra has moved up to the second position after the fourth attempt. He threw 88.13 meters in the fourth attempt. His fifth attempt was a foul. Despite being fouled in the fifth attempt, his best was 88.13m, trailing Granada legend Anderson Peters. Peters threw a throw of 90.21m in the first attempt and set his benchmark in the final. Anderson threw a throw of 90.46m in his second attempt and retained his first position. 

Chopra won a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw final and became the second Indian after Anju Bobby George to win a medal at the World Championships. However, for the first time, an Indian player won the silver medal in this event. Anju Bobby George won the bronze medal in 2003.
