Pune, 6th August 2020: The Center for Innovation, Incubation and Enterprises of Savitribai Phule Pune University has entered into an agreement with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) to deliver joint certification courses in entrepreneurship in New Venture and Innovation management, development of faculty to lead entrepreneurship initiative and create awareness on entrepreneurship in the student community.

The time is most appropriate due to the pandemic and economic slow down where the job market is likely to take a hit. This association will open up opportunities for students from SPPU to be trained by best in class faculties from EDII which has been in entrepreneurship training for last 25 years and top rung institute promoted by the government on entrepreneurship. This will also help and support the creation of scalable enterprises that have the potential to grow. The Atmanirbhar Bharat speaks on the creation of enterprises that will require training interface and mentoring that shall come by in this partnership.

Letter of intent was signed between Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Enterprise(CIIE) at SPPU with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in the presence of Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor Pune University, Dr N. S. Umarani, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dr Prafulla Pawar, Registrar, Dr Manohar Chaskar, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, DrArvind Shaligram CEO of SPPU Research Park Foundation, Dr Apoorva Palkar-Director Innovation at SPPU and Milind Kamble, Board Member, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII). The Director of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Dr Sunil Shukla and his colleagues SB Sareen and Dr Satya Ranjan Acharya were present at this time through online.

While speaking on this occasion Dr Karmalkar said, “SPPU has set up a centre for innovation, incubation and enterprise to promote the culture of startups not only in the Unversity but also through the college ecosystem where we have more than 300 startup cells. This is a step towards the creation of Atmanirbhar Bharat “

Giving more information about this, Dr Apoorva Palkar said that this partnership shall bring in top-class entrepreneurship education from best in class faculty and mentorship support of an acclaimed institution like EDII and Innovation centre shall support this MoU with its expertise and working together on various entrepreneurial initiatives

University initially proposes to announce ‘Diploma in Innovation and New Venture Management’. This will be a 1-year post-graduate diploma course in which students will come out with a startup idea with POC(proof of concept) ready to enter any incubation and those who opt for a job may get opportunities in innovation centres. The entire education of this course will be given to the students online.
