New Pune Airport to Open by March 2029 at Purandar, Water Aerodrome Planned At Pavana Dam

Mumbai/Pune, 7th January 2025: Union Minister of State for Aviation Murlidhar Mohol and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai, to discuss ongoing aviation development projects across the state.

The meeting emphasized critical projects for Pune, including the new Purandar Airport, expansion plans for Pune International Airport, and a proposed water aerodrome at Pavana Dam.

Key Decisions for Pune

  1. New Pune Airport in Purandar: The much-anticipated Purandar Airport project gained momentum as officials announced that the land acquisition process would begin soon. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be finalized by September 2025, with the airport slated to become operational by March 2029.
  2. Pune International Airport Expansion: The Operational Level Survey (OLS) for the expansion of the existing runway at Pune International Airport has been successfully completed. The required land acquisition is scheduled to be completed within six months, enabling the next phase of development.
  3. Water Aerodrome at Pavana Dam: In a move to boost regional connectivity, the government directed an immediate survey for a water aerodrome at Pavana Dam. The project aims to facilitate seaplane operations and attract tourism to the region.
