New Delhi, 18th July 2022: The department of commerce from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in a notification dated 14th July, made amendments to the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Rules, 2006. A unit operating in the SEZ may now permit 50 percent of the employees, including contractual staff, to work from home or any place outside the SEZ.

A new rule- 43A (work from home) is added to the SEZ rule book by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The categories of employees (including contractual workers) who will be permitted to work from home are listed in the new rule book. These individuals include those working in IT and ITeS SEZ units, those temporarily unable to work, those travelling, and those working remotely.

A greater number of employees may be permitted to work from home by the development commissioner for any valid reason that is documented in writing.
