Viman Nagar, 22nd July 2024: In an effort to improve passenger convenience, three travelators connecting the new terminal building of the city airport with the AeroMall are expected to be installed within the next year, according to a senior airport official.

“The installation of these travelators requires the demolition of the chilling unit building currently located in front of the departure gate of the existing terminal. Once the travelators are in place, they will facilitate easier access for passengers from the new terminal to the AeroMall,” said the official.

The distance between the arrival gates of the new terminal and the AeroMall entrance is approximately 400 meters. Presently, passengers have to go to the departure gate of the old terminal to access the AeroMall’s multilevel parking for cab pickups. “To bridge this gap, two buses have been deployed to transport passengers to the AeroMall, successfully moving around 2,000 passengers since the new terminal opened. Additionally, battery-operated carts are available, transporting about 200 passengers daily,” the official added.

The new travelators are expected to eliminate the need for walking this distance, significantly enhancing passenger convenience. “The project is estimated to cost between Rs 6 crore and Rs 7 crore. Both the renovation and installation processes can occur simultaneously, with an expected completion time of around 7-8 months,” the official explained.

These improvements aim to provide a more seamless and efficient travel experience for passengers at Pune Airport.
