Hadapsar,4 July 2026 : A newly resurfaced stretch of the Hadapsar–Mundhwa Road has caved in within just four days of the asphalt work being completed, triggering concern among commuters and local residents over road safety during the ongoing monsoon.
The damaged portion of the road developed a noticeable depression following recent rainfall, making it hazardous for motorists, particularly two-wheeler riders. Residents said the collapse has increased the risk of accidents as vehicles are forced to slow down or suddenly change lanes to avoid the affected stretch.
Locals further alleged that instead of carrying out a full repair, only a fresh layer of asphalt was placed over the damaged portion as a temporary measure. They have demanded a thorough inspection of the road, proper reconstruction of the affected stretch, and an inquiry into the quality of the work carried out.
“The road was resurfaced only a few days ago, yet it has already caved in. This is a serious safety concern, especially during the monsoon when the damaged portion is difficult to notice because of rainwater,” said a local commuter.
“We expect durable roads built with public funds. A proper technical inspection should be conducted, the damaged stretch should be reconstructed, and accountability must be fixed if any lapses are found,” another resident said.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the condition of newly executed road works during the monsoon season. Residents have urged the civic authorities to undertake immediate and permanent repairs to ensure the safety of thousands of daily commuters using the Hadapsar–Mundhwa Road.
