Pune, 10th March 2026: Concerns have been raised over the quality of the newly inaugurated flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, constructed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to ease traffic congestion in the city.

The flyover was virtually inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday. However, BJP corporator Sunny Vinayak Nimhan has alleged that visible flaws in the structure indicate negligence in the construction work and has demanded action against the officials and contractors involved in the project.

Nimhan said photographs of the flyover taken after it was opened to the public have raised doubts about the quality of the work. According to him, a detailed technical inspection is necessary to determine whether the issue is a serious structural defect.

“Even if it is not a major structural problem, it is clearly visible that there has been some carelessness during the construction,” Nimhan said.

He added that the issue appears particularly concerning given the person to whom the flyover has been dedicated and the fact that it was inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Nimhan further said the alleged flaws do not reflect on the political leadership but point towards administrative negligence and a lack of accountability. He noted that a final inspection of the flyover should have been carried out before its inauguration.

Demanding strict action, Nimhan urged the authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the officials and contractors responsible.

He also clarified that while he is a public representative, he is raising the concern primarily as a responsible citizen of Pune and as an engineer.
