Title: Approach of a NGO towards making a city smarter
Abstract: A city can be called ‘smart’ only if people love to live in that city. This implies ability of the city to provide good household and core civic amenities to all sections of the society. Though primary responsibility for this lies with the Governing authorities, participation of citizens’ organizations also plays a vital role. This paper presents a case study of NRRF, a NGO run by a group of like-minded people in the southern part of Pune city (India) working towards ‘making lives of the present and future generations of the area pleasant, healthy and cheerful’. NRRF believes that citizens’ participation is essential to make a city smarter by spreading the message “Let us be the change we wish to see”. The methodology of NRRF includes propagating better waste disposal methods, propagating the need for planned usage of water, involving citizens to build eco-friendly environment and empowering economically-backward sections of Society.
