NITES Demands Investigation Into Death of Ernst & Young Employee in Pune
Pune, 19th September 2024: The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has formally called for an independent and thorough investigation into the death of 26-year-old Anna Sebastian Perayil, a Chartered Accountant (CA) working at Ernst & Young (EY) in Pune. The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about the working conditions within the company.
Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES, revealed that letters have been submitted to both the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Home Affairs, urging immediate action. “The young employee lost her life, and no representatives from the company attended her funeral,” Saluja stated.
He expressed grave concerns over the incident, calling it a shocking disregard for employee welfare and basic human dignity. “This raises urgent questions about the toxic work culture within certain corporate environments,” he added.
NITES is pressing for a detailed investigation to identify the factors that contributed to the employee’s death. “We have urged both ministries to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and hold those responsible accountable. This investigation is crucial to ensuring that such tragedies are not repeated, and that employees across the IT, finance, and corporate sectors are protected from hazardous working conditions,” said Saluja.
