No Pakistani Nationals Residing in Pune Rural Area: Special IG Sunil Phulari

Pune, 29th April 2025: Amid heightened national security concerns following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, including six tourists from Maharashtra, Special Inspector General of Police Sunil Phulari has confirmed that no Pakistani nationals are currently residing in the Pune Rural area.

During a press conference held at the Pune Rural Police Headquarters, Phulari informed that there are 67 Pakistani nationals on long-term visas residing across the five districts of Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, and Solapur (Rural). However, none of them are present in the jurisdiction of Pune Rural Police, he clarified.

Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural ) Pankaj Deshmukh reaffirmed that no Pakistani national resides in the rural limits of Pune.

The statement comes in the wake of a nationwide directive to verify and repatriate Pakistani nationals currently residing in India, following the cowardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, which has sparked nationwide outrage and calls for stricter internal security.

Annual Inspection and Felicitation Ceremony
The remarks were made during the annual inspection ceremony at Pune Rural Police Headquarters. The event featured a ceremonial parade, with Special IG Phulari taking the salute and reviewing key demonstrations including the PT class, lathi drill, guard drill, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) showcase, and a crowd dispersal drill simulating law and order scenarios.

On the occasion, several individuals and police units were felicitated for their outstanding contributions during the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and throughout the year. Awards were given for:
Best Police Station
Highest Crime Conviction Rate
Notable Property Seizure
Community Contribution – including the DJ free Ganpati Utsav celebration group and the Ek Gaon Ek Ganapati Mandal
Outstanding Male and Female Officers
The ceremony aimed to boost the morale of police and administrative personnel while showcasing the preparedness of the rural police force to handle both routine and crisis situations.
