Pune, 1st April 2022: A day after he issued an order making it compulsory for two-wheeler riders and drivers to wear a helmet if they want entry into government and semi-government offices, Pune District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh today clarified that there will not be strict enforcement of the rule, instead people will be made aware of its benefits.

Deshmukh said that in the first phase, government employees were instructed to wear helmets while coming to work.

“Not wearing a helmet is a big loss of life. It is important to use a helmet to prevent this. It should be started by our officers and employees in government offices. They should set an example in front of everyone,” he said.

He further said that a circular has been issued as per the instructions of the commissioner. In the first phase, we are not going to force it, we are going to make people aware of the benefits of wearing a helmet. In the first phase, we are going to sensitize the people and the authorities to use helmets, not coercion.”
