Pune, 16th February 2023: Zilla Parishad’s efforts to enable women in rural areas of Pune district to own houses have been successful, with women’s names appearing on 8.15 lakh properties out of a total of 9.27 lakh properties.

The campaign, called Maha Ferfar Abhiyan, aims to impose joint ownership of husband and wife on all houses in every village in the district, which gives women an equal share in family assets.

Although women work with men in all fields, men still dominate as the head of the family in rural areas. Zilla Parishad’s campaign aims to ensure that women have equal rights to own property in rural areas, which will help them become owners of their family properties and receive legal shares in property. This campaign will also update the modification records and reduce the registration of deceased family heads.

The joint name of husband and wife is being applied as the head of the family on the 7th and 8th extract of all the properties of all the villages and townships in the district. Additionally, the Maha Ferfar campaign reduces the names of deceased family heads, registers the heirs in place of the deceased, registers the joint name of husband and wife as the head of the family on the 8A extract, registers new buildings or houses outside the village, and updates the records of the property bought and sold in the village.

There are 1386 Gram Panchayats in the district, with a total of 1874 villages and nine lakh 96 thousand 212 families in rural areas. The total numbers of properties are 9 lakh 28 thousand 389. The registered properties of women ownership so far is 8 lakh 15 thousand 573, which means that the percentage of registered women ownership is 89%.

Zilla Parishad Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sachin Ghadge said that this campaign will help in reducing the registration of deceased persons and women getting a legal share in property. It will also help women become owners of their family properties and ensure that they have equal rights to own property in rural areas along with men.
