September 17, 2020: A policy of ‘Tourist Incentive Coupon’ has been initiated by Uttarakhand government to welcome travellers to come and enjoy their stay in the state.

The state’s Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj announced the scheme. This policy will help in boosting tourism in the state which has suffered a blow due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Uttarakhand government has announced that they will give offer a discount of up to 25 per cent or a reduction of Rs 1000, whichever is lower on accommodation charges. This discount can be availed on homestay or hotel accommodation in the state.

How can you avail the scheme?

In order to avail the scheme one has to generate a coupon by registering at the Dehradun Smart City Portal. After logging in their portal an ID will be generated which you can show at the hotel where you are staying. After showing your ID, the designated amount will be deducted from your total bill.

When will the scheme be available?  

The scheme is not currently under execution. The government has planned to launch the scheme around the third week of September.

The scheme will first be tested for a period of one month and based on the response, it will be extended for two more months.

Terms and Conditions for the scheme

1. The scheme will be applicable only when the traveller has done an online booking for a minimum three-day stay in a hotel/homestay.

2. The accommodation has to be in a tourism registered hotel/homestay in Uttarakhand.

3. The discount of 25 percent or of Rs 1000 can be availed on a per room basis only for the time period of your entire stay.

Is an E-pass or a COVID-19 negative certificate necessary to enter the state?

The state has lifted the restrictions on inter-state movement hence an E-pass is not necessary. But registration on Dehradun’s Smart City Portal is necessary and it will be checked on the border post.

Also, a COVID-19 negative certificate is necessary while travelling. The certificate must not be more than 96 hours before the period of entry into the state.

Char-Dham Yatra pilgrims can avail the scheme too

The famous Char Dham Yatra of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri are also open for tourists now and they can also avail the discount provided under the scheme.
