Pune, March 11, 2019 : The common complaint of railway passengers used to be that coaches shake when train runs at high speed and whenever started and stopped. This caused trouble to travelers especially to children and senior citizens.

Taking this matter seriously, the Railway Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) has developed a new ‘Balanced Type Draft Gear’ by making the required changes in the older ‘Center buffer coupler system (CBC)’.

Under the active guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Milind Deouskar, the senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer Vijay Singh Dadas, Chief Depot Officer Kuldeep Raghuvanshi and Assistant Divisional Mechanical Engineer Partha and the team of officers, supervisors and other staffs worked hard and implemented the new system in LHB coaches of trains starting from Pune. The system has been first started in Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi Express, Ahmedabad Duranto Express,   and Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express.

Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) design coaches are lighter in weight, have higher carrying capacity, higher speed potential, increased codal life and better safety features as compared to Integral Coach Factory (ICF) design coaches.

The passenger coaches plying over Indian Railways (IR) have been designed with the necessary safety features considering the operating conditions over IR. However, with a view to providing safer and more comfortable journey to passengers, it has been decided to replace conventional ICF design coaches of Mail/Express trains with LHB design coaches in a phased manner.
