‘Nrityayatri’ bringing the saga with the episode of the Ramayana – ‘Choodamani Pradanam’.

Pune, November 15, 2019: ‘Nrityayatri’ is bringing the saga with the next episode of the Ramayana – ‘Choodamani Pradanam’. This follows the previous episode (Jatayu Moksham) ,where Sita is abducted by Ravana and Jatayu is killed while he tries to save her.

This vintage dance drama will held at Balgandharva Auditorium on 22nd November2019,6.45pm.40 artists from chennai will participate.The Vintage dance drama is the production by ‘The Kalakshetra Foundation’, established by The Legendary Guru Rukmini Devi Arundale in 1936.Revathi Ramchandran (Director,Kalakshetra Foundation) will also be present at this dance drama.

In Choodamani Pradanam, the story continues – where we see episodes like Rama lamenting for Sita – Rama & Lakshmana meet Hanumana on the way – Vali Sugreeva battle – the coronation of Sugreeva – Hanumana flying over the Bay of Bengal to Lanka in search of Sita – Ravana’s encounter with Sita in the Ashokvanam – meeting of Sita & Hanumana – burning of the Lanka – handing over Sita’s choodamani to Rama.

The artistry of this dance drama lies in the simple yet classy backdrops depicting the different locations, forests and bay -the use of Kathakali for the vaanarsena(monkey clan) – the sea green colour costumes depicting the water life – Ravana’s fury – Sita’s helplessness – and the wickedness of Rakshasis. The brilliant music score is by the maestro late Shri S. Rajaram.

The year 2015, history was created in Pune. Nrityayatri had invited Kalakshetra Foundation (a pioneer institute of classical dance founded by late Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale in the year 1936 based in Chennai) to present their vintage dance-drama ‘JATAYU MOKSHAM’. Jatayu Moksham broke all records. The immense love the Pune rasikas showered was overwhelming. It was a full house ticketed show. People had also travelled down from Kolhapur, Nashik, Goa to witness this show Jatayu Moksham is the third production among the six dance dramas of the Ramayana series choreographed by late Smt. Rukmini Devi.

As a choreographic work, the Ramayana series is a mammoth production. It is considered as an epitome of perfection, design, execution, stagecraft, music, dance, costumes. This entire Ramayana series is an eternal production and have left every generation awestruck with the grandeur, majesty yet conveyed beautifully and subtly through the medium of Bharatanatyam. Smt. Rukmini Devi was a visionary. She specifically wanted a few sequences to be choreographed in the Kathakali style of dance to enhance the characters. These movements create a massive impact and give a high to the story.

Nrityayatri is now bringing the saga once again with the next episode of the Ramayana – ‘Choodamani Pradanam’. This follows the previous episode
