NTKMA, IIT Bombay conduct technical training on quality testing of bituminous road works for Simhastha Kumbh 2027
Nashik, 09 July 2026: In a significant step towards ensuring world-class quality in infrastructure being developed for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA), in association with IIT Bombay, organised an online technical training session on “Density Check for Constructed DBM/BC Bituminous Layers” for engineers and officials associated with Kumbh-related road development projects. The session was attended by NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh and Deputy Commissioner (Planning) Yogendra Chaudhari.
The technical session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Dharamveer Singh of IIT Bombay, who explained the scientific procedures for conducting density checks of Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC) layers. He highlighted the importance of proper density testing, modern quality assurance techniques and best engineering practices to ensure durable, safe and long-lasting road infrastructure for the mega religious congregation.
Engineers and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways (PWD), Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council and Shirdi Municipal Council participated in the online training programme.
Speaking during the session, Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasised that quality control is a key priority for every infrastructure project being executed for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027. He urged all executing agencies to strictly adhere to prescribed engineering standards and adopt scientific testing methods at every stage of construction to ensure high-quality public infrastructure.
The NTKMA has been organising a series of technical capacity-building programmes in collaboration with premier academic and technical institutions to enhance the capabilities of engineers involved in Kumbh-related projects. These initiatives aim to ensure that all infrastructure created for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 meets the highest standards of quality, safety and durability, providing a robust and reliable infrastructure network for millions of devotees expected during the event.
