Pune: One Dead, Six Still Trapped as Rescue Operation Continues at Moshi Building Collapse Site
Pune, 9th July 2026: Rescue teams on Thursday recovered the body of a worker from the debris of the collapsed administrative building at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Waste-to-Energy plant in Moshi, more than 20 hours after the incident, while six people remained trapped under the rubble.
The deceased, identified as Bhavish Vani, was pulled out around 10 am by personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Army, the PCMC Fire Brigade and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which have been carrying out round-the-clock rescue operations since Wednesday afternoon.
According to the NDRF, nine people have been rescued alive so far. Officials said the search operation is continuing using specialised Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) equipment under the supervision of Commandant S. B. Singh and Assistant Commandant Pravin Dhat. Based on information from local residents, six people are still believed to be trapped beneath the debris, though officials said the number could rise to eight if reports about two persons in the building’s parking area are confirmed.
The accident occurred around 1.30 pm on Wednesday after a massive heap of garbage, located about 30 metres from the three-storey administrative building of the civic body’s Waste-to-Energy plant, collapsed onto the structure following heavy rain, causing it to cave in.
Officials said 20 people were inside the building at the time of the incident. Four employees on the second floor were flung clear as the building tilted and escaped, while the remaining 16 were trapped. Of them, nine have been rescued alive, one has died and six remain unaccounted for.
Rescue agencies said operations would continue until all those trapped are located and evacuated safely.
