Ola and Uber Cabs to Halt Operations in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad From Feb 20
Pune, 13th February 2024: All cabs and autorickshaws affiliated with Ola and Uber in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad are set to halt operations indefinitely starting February 20.
The decision, announced by Keshav Kshirsagar, President of the Indian Gig Workers Front and Baghtoy Rickshawala auto union, comes as a response to the companies’ failure to adjust cab fares in line with the rates established by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on January 3.
Kshirsagar emphasized that a significant protest is planned for February 20 in front of the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), and following this, Ola and Uber cabs will remain off the roads until the revised fare structure is implemented. Additionally, autorickshaws associated with these companies and other app-based aggregators will also join the strike, with only metered autos remaining operational.
The RTA, under the guidance of the collector, had approved new fares on January 3, setting the base fare for the first 1.5 km at Rs 37 and Rs 25 for every subsequent kilometer in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Baramati.
Addressing the ongoing issue, Kshirsagar stated, “We had discussions with the Regional Transport Officer and District Collector on Monday. While the RTO committed to convening a meeting with aggregator companies on Tuesday, the Collector expressed the intention to gather information first before making a decision.”
