Camp, 1st July 2025: A 21-year-old labourer from West Bengal died and three others sustained injuries after a portion of a slab collapsed at an under-construction site in Pune’s Camp area early Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 2 am in front of Meher Apartment on Sachapir Street, within the jurisdiction of Lashkar Police Station, while the workers were dismantling the fourth-floor slab of the building.

“The outer part of the slab gave way while four labourers were working on its removal. Unfortunately, one of them, Shubhankar Jadbha Mandal (21), a resident of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal, succumbed to injuries on the spot,” said Senior Police Inspector Girishkumar Dighavkar of Lashkar Police Station.

The three other workers — Cheni Mangal Mukherjee (21), Varun (35), and Sannyashi Bagdi (28), all hailing from Kolkata — sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital.

Police have initiated a probe into the incident and are examining whether safety protocols were followed during the construction activity. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
