One Of The Two Tunnel Works On Shivajinagar-Swargate Pune Metro Line Complete

Pune, 16th January 2022: The construction work of one tunnel out of the two tunnels of Shivajinagar to the Swargate underground line was completed on Friday. The distance from Shivajinagar to Swargate is 6 km.

Out of the total length of 12 km, 10.8 km of tunnel’s work have been completed. Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation (Mahametro) has planned to complete the remaining 1.2 km long tunnel by the end of March.

The metro line from Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate is elevated up to the Agriculture College and then the line to Swargate is underground. A tunnel boring machine (TBM) named ‘Pavana’ has reached the underground metro station at Budhwar Peth. Meanwhile, the fourth TBM is near Mandai station, said Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation.

“Tunnel construction is a very challenging task. Thanks to the support of citizens and government agencies, 90 per cent of the tunnel work has been completed. The rest of the work will be completed in the next few months”, said Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director, Mahametro.
