Online Fraud Alert: Pune Resident Loses Rs 7.69 Lakhs To Cyber Thieves Through Any Desk App
Pune, 18th March 2023: The Sahakar Nagar Police have registered an FIR after an online fraud incident came to light, wherein cyber thieves managed to siphon off Rs 7.69 lakhs by tricking victims into downloading an app called Any Desk to generate their credit card PIN.
Satish Eknath Pote, a resident of Sahakar Nagar, filed a complaint in this matter after falling victim to the scam that took place between 23 and 24 December 2022.
According to police reports, the fraudsters called Pote and instructed him to download the Any Desk app to generate his credit card PIN. Using the app, they obtained access to Pote’s bank account information and withdrew a total of Rs 7.69 lakhs, committing financial fraud. After an investigation, the police registered an FIR in this case.
