Online Market Will Be Made Available For Goods Made By Prisoners In Maharashtra: Amitabh Gupta

Pune, 11th January 2023: Products made by prisoners are in good demand and they will be available for sale online (e-commerce) in future, informed Amitabh Gupta, Inspector General of the Maharashtra Prisons Department.

An exhibition and sale of various items and products made by the prisoners of Yerwada Central Jail has been organized on the occasion of the Sankranti festival at the showroom opposite Yerwada post office near the jail. Gupta inaugurated the exhibition today.

He said, “Prisoners in jails have many talents. If the prisoners are provided with a nurturing environment to cultivate their talents and hobbies while in jail, they create various creative things.”

He informed that there is massive demand from various departments of the government for the things made by these prisoners. For example, tables, chairs, cupboards, uniforms, quivers, sarees, files, have huge demand.

“But to publicize the innovative and quality products made by the prisoners and to enable the citizens to buy them, exhibitions and sales fairs of the products made by them are organized in various districts of the state on various festivals through the Maharashtra Prisons Department,” Gupta added further.

Secretary of District Legal Services Authority MD Kashyap was the chief guest on this occasion. Deputy Inspector General Swati Sathe, Yerwada Jail Superintendent Shivshankar Patil, Jail Officer Training College Principal Chandramani Indurkar, officials, and staff of the Prisons Department were present.
