Orange Alert: IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Pune And Other Parts Of Maharashtra; Flooding and Landslide Concerns Persist

Pune, 25th July 2023: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised an orange alert in eight districts of Maharashtra, signaling a potential threat of heavy to very heavy rainfall for today and tomorrow.
The districts under the alert include Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara, as the monsoon season continues to intensify.
The decision to issue the orange alert comes in the wake of recent flooding and landslides that have wreaked havoc across these regions, driven by continuous heavy downpours. Just last week, a devastating landslide struck near Khalapur in Irshalwadi, resulting in tragic consequences. Similarly, yesterday, a landslide on the Pune-Mumbai expressway caused severe disruptions to traffic, underscoring the disruptive and perilous nature of these weather conditions.

Adding to the concerns, the Panchganga river in Kolhapur has crossed the danger mark, leading to the closure of the Gaganbawada road. With the river levels rising, residents in these areas are being urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel, considering the forecasted deluge.
As the situation remains fluid, the authorities are maintaining a vigilant watch on developments and will continue to provide timely updates.
