Organic farming festival draws Punekars at Krishi Bhavan, Shivajinagar

Shivajinagar (Pune), February 6, 2020 : The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and State Agriculture Department has organised organic farming festival at Krishi Bhavan, Narveer Tanajiwadi in Shivajinagar. This festival will be for three days beginning from 6 February to 8 February from 9 am till 8 pm.

Demand for organic food has been in great demand due to its various health benefits. Now Puneites have a great opportunity to buy organic food items including vegetables, fruits, jaggery, spices, etc. The festival was inaugurated by Agriculture Director, Narayan Shisode.

Under this organic farming, the plan is to grow as a more organic crop as possible and to motivate more farmers to participate in it. By providing good and convenient facilities to the farmers to grow more organic crops is the aim of the State Agriculture Department.

Speaking to Punekarnews.in, Babasaheb Bhausaheb Phopse, a farmer who came to sell seeds of different veggies and fruits, said, “I am here to sell the seeds of different vegetables and fruits which is grown organic and free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. As we know organic food is good for health, also it helps to improve the immune system.”

He further said, “People in the city can grow these seeds along their compound walls or beside their bungalows. To some extent, it will help them grow their food and they will have a handsome amount of organic food to eat.”

Another farmer, Laxman Khedekar said, “We need 28 liters of milk to make 1kg of desi ghee and the process is very slow and according to which the rates are decided, I produce mostly dairy products. Also I have Indrayani organic rice to sell here.”
