Over 1,000 Illegal Auto-Rickshaws Penalised in Two Weeks: Pune Traffic Police

Pune, 28th November 2025: In a crackdown on illegal auto-rickshaw operations and violations affecting smooth traffic movement, the Pune City Traffic Police have taken action against 1,087 rickshaws between November 10 and 26. A special enforcement team consisting of one officer and four personnel has been tasked with monitoring rickshaw-related offences across the city.
According to the traffic department, several violations were recorded during the drive. The highest number of cases — 424 — were related to electric auto drivers not following the prescribed uniform regulations. A total of 234 rickshaws were booked for carrying passengers beyond permitted capacity, while 138 drivers were penalised for refusing passenger fares.
Other offences included:
• No-parking violations and obstructing traffic – 92
• Parking at unauthorized rickshaw stands – 38
• Wrong-side driving – 36
• Front seat violations – 36
• Not carrying mandatory documents – 16
• Signal jumping – 16
• Miscellaneous violations – 57
Officials said the campaign aims to ease congestion on city roads and improve passenger safety.
The Pune City Traffic Police appealed to all rickshaw drivers to strictly adhere to traffic norms, including stopping only at designated stands, avoiding illegal parking, complying with signal and lane rules, and treating passengers respectfully while charging the metered fare.
“Your cooperation is essential for maintaining safe and organised transport in Pune,” the department stated in its appeal.
